"When we opened people up,
we'd find landscapes."
Agnes Varda
All my work is charged and propelled by what moves me: a sentence, a song, trees... But nature's ever-shifting colours and forms captivate me deeply, and always seem to me a profound reminder of time and our emotional journeys through it. It often feels possible that the bouncing colours, light and shadow can crack open a winding path into our guarded interior world - a space that is both sensual and intellectual, and adorned with memories. The playfulness and patterns across every season are tantalising and comforting, and painting is my way of filtering and blending that experience through my mind. Through layers of colours and textures, with brushstrokes often informed by my past practice in Chinese calligraphy, I try to re-imagine a space on the canvas that invites a wandering inside, remembering, and a dialogue between the viewer and the view.
